Coming over the crest of Loveland Pass from I-70, you catch your first glimpse of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. This
immortal winter giant, standing tall with a summit elevations of 13,050 ft seems to be always blanketed with fresh snow. This image is just after
sunrise - before any skiers are on the slopes.
A-Basin is widely regarded as the highest ski-able terrain in North America but Telluride boasts Palmyra Peak (13,320 ft) and Silverton Mountain has
terrain up to 13,487 ft. Due to its high altitude (at tree line) and its mostly north to northeast face, A-Basin remains open for skiing much longer
than most Colorado resorts and often starts earlier as well.
