On Saturday, November 20, 2010, the GLS group hiked the Pine Valley Loop trail outside Pine Grove (formerly just Pine), CO. The loop is an easy hike gaining 1300 ft in elevation during its 8 miles roundtrip. The hike is dominated by reminders of the High Meadows fire of 2000 - a fire originated by lightning. This was a nice hike on a great day with wonderful companions.

In the same area as the previous photo, the barren hills in the distance caught my eye. The High Meadows fire was in 2000 and yet the hills that were completely wiped out appear to remain barren. I would have thought there would be signs of new growth by now. I guess we don't always understand the workings of nature.
