destinations - black lake

September 18, 2010 - I drove to Rocky Mountain National Park early in hopes of beating the rush of Denverites heading to the mountains. This is a prime weekend for finding great fall colors. I luckily found a parking spot at the Glacier Gorge trailhead. Quickly I prepared everything and started my trek to find Black Lake - deep (about 5 miles)into the Rockies from the trailhead. I had been told about Black Lake by Lori Salisbury a few years ago. She found it to be a very inspirational place.

After resting and just soaking in my surroundings - and that was so enjoyable - I thought I would try to get a self picture. I thought I had the camera focused on the large rock and knew I had 10 seconds to get there. I didn't realize how much water I had to jump and that it needed to be done via slippery rocks. I just barely got to the rock when the shutter released. I decided not to chance falling in the water. Sorry it is not a better image but this is proof I was there.
