distant snow

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, the GLS group hiked the Pine Valley Loop trail outside Pine Grove (formerly just Pine), CO. The loop is an easy hike gaining 1300 ft in elevation during its 8 miles roundtrip. The hike is dominated by reminders of the High Meadows fire of 2000 - a fire originated by lightning. This was a nice hike on a great day with wonderful companions.

Continuing to gain elevation on the trail, the devastation of the fire was all around us. We were out of the valley and high enough now you could see the mountains in the distance. I walked off the trail to get this shot of the distant snow on Rosalie Peak.
