Before driving into downtown Grand Lake, we headed further north to the entrance to
Rocky Mountain National Park. However, there were logging operations going on (pine beetle infestation is very bad here) so we went to the Winding
River Resort. It is 1 1/2 miles north of Grand Lake on Hwy 34 and is a family camping and lodging resort.
Taking a leisurely drive around the resort - mostly empty due to the time of year - came to an abrupt halt when I saw two
large objects in a tree across the water. Oh my goodness, it was two bald eagles. They was so motionless I wondered if they
were real. Could they just be decoys someone put up there?
They were so majestic purched like that together. Bald eagles are loyal to their mates during their lifetime. An eagle will
usually look for a new mate only if its companion dies. Too bad people can't be more like eagles.
