Gold Splash
destinations - steamboat springs
      gold splash
On Saturday, September 25, 2010, I picked up my good friend and fellow photographer Sequoia for was likely our last photo trip into the mountains before she moves to California. We have enjoyed many such mornings driving, enjoying each others company and getting some great shots in places off the beaten path. Our destination was Steamboat Springs but our goal was to try to capture some of the autumn scenes we were being blessed with seeing.

We now had been to Steamboat Springs - a beautiful ski town, a place I would love to come back to and stay for a while. We had backtracked over Rabbit Ears Pass and were now heading East towards Ft. Collins and the Front Range of the Rockies. The color around us was gorgeous but a truly bright grove of aspens caught my eye - so much so that Sequoia was a bit nervous that I wasn't watching where I was driving. She mentioned the dirt road we had just passed as a possible way to get up to those trees. After an abrupt turn-around, we bounced up the road to discover an aspen wonderland.

Walking through the field between aspen groves there were golden aspens just over the ridge but in the distance, it seemed that God had spilled colors on the far hillside. How cool is that?
