Every hiking season, I climb a previously scaled 14er to check the condition of my
legs and lungs. This year, I intended to do Mt. Bierstadt again but part way up the road to Guanella Pass I discovered construction had closed
the road. I back tracked and headed up I-70 to the trailhead for Grays and Torreys Peaks. I had hiked Grays twice before - once continuing over
to Torreys Peak.
I am now at a place where the valley is gone and the steepness of the hike is a dose of reality. I wanted to get a
shot of Grays Peak before I started the true ascent. You can see the trail switchback on its way up.
