On Saturday, October 2, 2010, I got up before sunrise to drive to Mt. Falcon - just into the foothills of the Rocky
Mountains with a view of Denver and the plains to the east. I wanted to try to capture the sunrise. I got there plenty early and just sat in my jeep looking up at the moon
and stars in the cloudless sky. A wonderfully peaceful time but it didn't bode well for good photography.
I had to put my headlamp on to navigate the path to the overlook. That is a bit scary at times when done alone. I set up where I thought I might get some decent shots but
as I watched the deer grazing in the meadow below me, I realized I needed higher ground. I grabbed my tripod and climbed to the top of Mt. Falcom to see if this was better. It
was but there only a thin line of clouds on the horizon and not much chance to grab a sunrise picture. However, I was able to get this shot after the sun had risen but was still
behind the clouds. The horizon below was red while the rays of the sun powering through the clouds incredible. Sometimes it only takes one shot to make the entire trip
worthwhile --- sort of like golf!.
