muskrat watching

On Saturday, November 20, 2010, the GLS group hiked the Pine Valley Loop trail outside Pine Grove (formerly just Pine), CO. The loop is an easy hike gaining 1300 ft in elevation during its 8 miles roundtrip. The hike is dominated by reminders of the High Meadows fire of 2000 - a fire originated by lightning. This was a nice hike on a great day with wonderful companions.

As we neared the far end of Pine Lake, the muskrat appeared to be intently watching us as much as we were watching it. Shortly after this shot it dove in the water only to resurface further away from us.
