Uncompahgre Peak is the 6th highest peak in Colorado at 14,309 ft and is the highest peak of the San Juan Mountains. Like all peaks in the San Juan Mountains, Uncompahgre is of volcanic origin but is not a volcano. The trail to the summit is a strenous hike rising 2,919 ft in about 3.5 miles.
